About Us

Our Philosophy

It is the goal of Orillia Central Preschool to provide an environment, which offers the opportunity for each child to develop in his or her own unique way. Our Preschool Programs are based on the philosophy that children’s play is valued, and that children interact with, and learn from their peers. Through play, children are encouraged to form positive relationships, make choices, and participate in a full range of activities. Our program is designed to enhance children’s development in all areas, foster self esteem and encourage both independence and interdependence, in an environment that is positive and free from coercion.

Our Early Beginnings

In 1985 our beginnings started as part of an organization called Catulpa Tamarac and Family Services. Susan Clark, a manager at Catulpa Tamarac, had a vision for a Nursery School that would provide services for all children. This innovative program was a nursery school program that provided an inclusive environment for children aged eighteen months to five years of age. Early intervention resource consultants, access to speech and language specialists and occupational therapists were available for children with special needs.

In 1994, we separated from this organization and became a non-profit, charitable corporation governed by a community board of directors.

In 1996, with the support of the Simcoe County District School Board, OCP opened a Learning, Earning and Parenting (LEAP) infant program. This program allowed young parents the opportunity to continue their education, in partnership with local high schools, learn valuable parenting and life skills as well as receive help and employment from other community partners.

The need for quality childcare through out the community is always growing and by 1997 OCP began offering care for all children and families within the Orillia and surrounding area.

Our Daycare Today

Today, OCP is proud to host over 200 children daily in our programs.  Our 3 locations offer care for children from 1 month of age to 12 years of age. Both our Orchard Park and our South locations offer before and after school care and full day programs for school age children during school closures.
